Mr. Narendra Modi will take oath at the majestic forecourt of the historic Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi in the presence of over 3,000 invitees. The new Cabinet Ministers will also be sworn-in.

Just like former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Narendra Modi has expressed his desire to be sworn at the forecourt so that a large number of visitors could be accommodated to witness the ceremony.

 

A ground-to-air security cover is being arranged with an impregnable air defense system in the sky and about 6,000 security personnel, from paramilitary commandos to police sharpshooters, on the ground will be deployed to guard. All roads around Raisina Hills that lead to Rashtrapati Bhawan will be barricaded as part of the security measures.

For the first time, SAARC Heads of State and Government including Pakistan Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Nawaz Sharif, Sri Lanka President H.E. Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Bangladesh Premier H.E. Ms. Sheikh Hasina, Afghanistan President H.E. Mr. Hamid Karzai, Bhutan Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Tshering Tobgay, Nepal Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Sushil Koirala and Maldivian President H.E. Mr. Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom have been invited to Mr. Modi’s swearing-in as Prime Minister on May 26. BJP leader Mr. Arun Jaitley said that it was Mr. Modi’s desire to invite the heads of government of all SAARC countries to his swearing-in, saying it is a first step towards improving ties with India’s neighbours.
75 foreign dignitaries to attend Modi’s swearing-in

The BJP Overseas Affairs said that 75 of the 90 foreign dignitaries it invited from across the world have confirmed they will join in at Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.

“We had sent invitations to 90 dignitaries, which include non-resident Indians, people of Indian-origin and others,” Vijay Jolly, global convenor of the BJP Overseas Affairs, told IANS.

Overseas Affairs is an arm of the the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and maintains contact with people and political parties abroad.

Dignitaries from Norway, Russia, Ukraine, Nigeria, Kenya, Taiwan, Guyana, Denmark, Israel, Australia, and Hong Kong, among others, will attend the ceremony.

The swearing-in ceremony of Modi will be attended by nearly 3,000 guests, including top leaders from SAARC bcountries like Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam will also attend the event Monday.

Outgoing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and party Vice President Rahul Gandhi, besides leaders of various other parties and chief ministers of a number of states will also be attending the function in the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Modi’s mother Hiraben is also expected to attend the ceremony.

Modi to visit Rajghat

Meanwhile, Modi will also visit Rajghat at 7 am on Monday to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi ahead of being sworn in as the 15th Prime Minister, official sources said today.

Modi to shift to 7 Race Course

Modi will shift to 7 Race Course Road after taking oath as India’s 15th prime minister on Monday, informed sources have said.

The sources said that Modi, who will take oath at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, will move from the presidential palace to his official residence, around three kilometres away.
